Angel Wing…

The lovely park we go to is full of broody ducks, geese, swans and heron.

Any minute now the eggs will be a-hatching and the chicks will be a-chickling and we will all smile and coo over every young bird we see as the blossom and the flowers form a perfect backdrop for new life.

There is a Canada Goose we see who looks as though he has been in a fight.  He wanders across the grassy parklands with his feathers ruffled.  First one wing and now both are seen to be in disarray.

He looks as though he could do with a good grooming.

Alas, he has not been in a fight we discovered from a notice posted close to where he habitually wanders along the grassy banks of the lake.

He is suffereing from Angel Wing which is a protein imbalance affecting the muscles of his wings causing them to droop and stick out.

He will never fly again which makes him easy prey for the foxes that we know roam the area.

We are asked again, to stop feeding the water fowl white bread.

I am amazed at the numbers of visitors who ignore this admonition found on informative notices at regular intervals throughout the park and around the lake.

Poor Spike.                            Spike
