Battersea Dogs’ Home Finally…

When we journey to London we always see The Battersea Dogs’ Home from the window and with the passing comes the comment,

“We have to go there one day.  I’ve wanted to visit all my life!”  Because of course I lived in the environs of Battersea, Vauxhall, Clapham when I was young and it was somewhere my parents would never take me.  Their dogs had to be pedigrees, no mutts for them!

This weekend we paid a visit.  Getting there wasn’t as easy as it looked from the train window, we had to go into Victoria then catch another train to Battersea Park, clear across the station!  We thought it would be easy to get a bus back to Brixton and visit the market on the way back, since the home looks as though it is quite close, but there weren’t any buses or any locals to tell us if there were!  So we retraced our steps and got there by train.

At the home we were disappointed.  Apart from about half a dozen dogs all the rest were Staffordshire Bull Terriers, not at all the type of dog I would consider adopting although there were signs everywhere declaring them sweet, and soft, and family loving and playful…
