Beyond Our Boundaries…

I first met Renee Tougas on my show, The Sociable Homeschooler!

We have a lot in common, she loves to blog and you can find her at FIMBY (Fun in My Backyard) a play on the phrase, Not in My Back Yard (NIMBY) which we English employ when the government tries to encroach on our wide open green spaces with proposals for motorways or airports,

“What a great idea,” we enthuse “only NIMBY!”

Renee describes herself as a creative spirit with a practical perspective and down-to-earth approach. She excels at getting things done and managing the details but doesn’t forget to smell the daisies by appreciating and capturing the beauty around her. She brings her love for intentional family living, enthusiasm for the natural world, and a passion for lifelong learning to everything she does.

And this year that includes a thru hike on the Appalachian Trail with husband Damien of Toe Salad fame, and their three children aged 14, 12 and 10.  They are starting their epic walk in Georgia in April and finishing the 2000 mile hike in Maine in September.

Of course there are a lot of questions to ask of this woman who is a kindred spirit and she has graciously agreed to find the time for a little chat really soon before she puts on her hiking boots and shoulders her gear.  This intimate conversation will take place over on The Sociable Homeschooler, time and date to be announced!

I’m hearing you ask,

“What can we do to help this amazing family who are going to be embracing the opportunity to grow both mentally and physically on the trail?”

Visit their Kickstarter Page to learn more about their Beyond Our Boundaries Video series that they are going to be filming en route..

Since they will be too busy hiking and eating to have the time or ability to edit their material and publish the episodes themselves they are partnering with a video editor who will edit, produce, and publish each episode for them.  Their plan is whenever they get to a town stop along the way, they will mail the memory cards to their editor who will in turn produce and publish the videos.

They are asking you to help them raise $16.000 to make their Video Series comprising of 20 or more, 10-15 minute episodes of the Tougas family up close and personal hiking the AT.

My prayers go with you my friend.
