Cat Among the Pigeons…

I like to walk in Kelsey Park where there is a lovely pond with a large island, home to a colony of grey heron.

There are two ways around the pond, one that allows dogs, one that does not.  Both allow children and mothers with their push chairs abound on sunny afternoons.

I enjoy both routes, the paths are clean, the lawns are safe, no worries about stepping in anything un-toward.  Owners are very good at cleaning up after their best friends and there are plenty of bins to take the chore out of disposal.

Ducks and geese do not have assigned owners.  I have to tread carefully along the more trafficked areas where the birds roam quite unperturbed by the numbers of people sharing their habitat.  In fact park animals are referred to as semi-domestic because they nonchalantly parade themselves and their young along the grassy park pulling at grass and foraging where families settle to picnic and singles come to play.

This Spring I have been watching the geese, their goslings growing rapidly from fist size to young adult in a matter of weeks.

This group grazed along my path a few feet in front of me today,

Even though they are grown enough to fend for themselves, the sight of my iPhone pointed in their direction caused the gander to hiss at me showing his tongue in the hopes of scaring me away

I stood my ground to get a shot and he didn’t know what to do so he reluctantly hissed again and left it at that looking awfully handsome I thought,

Further along the pond I found one of the park cats lounging in the sun,

nothing too remarkable until I saw she was among the pigeons and water fowl.

She was not interested and they were too busy going about their avian lives to pay her any attention!
