Deep Purple…

DeepPurple

Yes, purple is my PerriPoppins daughter’s favourite colour but this isn’t about the colour.

It’s about the band!

We went to see them last night at The Roundhouse in Camden Town, North London.

The architecture of the building is fabulous!

The place was packed and we had good seats upstairs looking down on those standing below.

Three original members of the band were there, Ian Gillan the singer with his distinctive voice belting out some high notes.

Roger Glover, the bass player.

Ian Paice the drummer who was brilliant in his drum solo, don’t ask me what it was called, trust me, it took me back to the days when all rock and roll bands had long drum solos!

The America lead guitarist Steve Morse was brilliant and his guitar solo was riveting.

Our friend, resposible for the fabulous tickets that had us sitting down, Don Airey,  played organ.

Dee Purple were listed in 1972 in the Guinness Book of Records as the globe’s loudest band!

They are still the globe’s loudest band!

I can say this because I was by no means the oldest person there and so cannot be called “too old” for complaining about the volume!

The band has had a following since its formation in 1968 when I was still in nappies!  The average age last night must have been mid 50’s!  Lots of grandmas and grandpas jamming in their seats or downstairs on the floor joining Ian Gillan as he sang a blast from the past!

I looked around in my fuzz of pounding noise and there was only a smattering of young people.

It looked so odd!

Those sitting around me would have been better suited at the symphony or opera, or the Barry Gibb concert I went to a couple of weeks ago!

I cannot get my head around old men playing music I danced to when I was in my early twenties…

But they all looked really good for their ages and you know what?

Not a tattoo in sight!  Lots of arms and muscles, no skin ink.

Hubs said back then it was the bikers who got tattooed, not the heavy metalists or rockstars.

We didn’t use our back stage passes as our old ears couldn’t handle the din for any longer than an hour!

I suppose most of the audience were retired so didn’t have to get up early for work the following morning.  They were probably deaf too if they frequented loud concerts.

We beat the crush on the tube and quietly snuck home to bed.

Good times!
