Easter Alleluia’s…

The stone has been rolled away and the tomb is empty!

Alleluia!

For we Christians that means Jesus was who He said He was and had finished what He was sent to do on earth.

Alleluia!

Our Redeemer lives!

He has regained possession of His created in exchange for His death.  He has made amends.

His blood has washed us clean;

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus…purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)

The forty day build up before Easter, known as Lent, has been one of reflection for me this year.

I wondered what new habit would be formed from the rule I kept?

As a young girl I gave up sugar in my tea and coffee; I still go sugarless.

As a new mother I started going to mid-week mass; to refresh my soul.  I continue to attend week-day mass.

As a homeschooler of four youngsters I began to journal; to keep me sane when there were no adults around.  I journal daily now.

With four teenagers living under my roof I took up contemplative prayer; a way to zone-out the know-it-alls and listen to the  wisdom of God.  I’m still listening.

And now: an enforced season of quietly sheltering-at-home?

Not so bad for me on my property.

There’s bird-song to awaken to,

poetry to write,

family papers to sort and laminate,

books to read,

prayers to learn,

recipes to try,

and my neighbor’s pure, white Iris to enjoy,

Brilliant isn’t it?

Once this season ends will I be reluctant to heed the summons from the deep hush wherein I heard the tender whisper of His call?  (Dear Lord and Father of Mankind, John Greenleaf Whittier)

Will I grieve my own company and resist re-joining the noise of the world and find a gentler way?

I pray that when we all look back on this time it will be with a sweet yearning.  Alleluia!
