Personal Loan…

I had to register as an elector in order to be considerd for a loan.

Now if you’re wondering why I need a loan so early into my moving to England you are quite justified.  We’re starting all over here and I feel like a youngster out on my own again, except I don’t have willing or able parents to vouch for me as co-signers.

American credit records are not global which may be good and bad news.  We had no credit history in England

Our meeting with the bank manager was nerve wracking, we almost felt as though we were money launderers and the suspense while we waited for the computer to say “Yes!” was sickening!!

Luckily we had maintained a sterling bank account for ever so many years but it was a savings and did not translate into a walk off the street easy access cash dispenser.  Recently it was bought out by a Spanish bank which specialised in high street banking and we were approved with a cheque book and a debit card, but no credit card…we had no credit, remember?

The fact that we don’t owe a penny to anyone in England or have a mortage weighs heavily against us.

So we thought a small personal loan would go along nicely towards establishing terrific credit in my homeland.  But I have to be on the electoral role, so does hubsie even though he’s not a Brit.  So we registered here is an excerpt of the letter I received from the Electoral Assistant:

“…….I have added you to my list of applications.  Any elector is now allowed to object to your name being included on the Register.  If this happens I will write to you again.  If there is no objection to your application you will be added to the Register effective from 1 September 2011.”

I have just set myself up to be objected to!  I found that very amusing…

And we’ll see if it gets us our loan so that we can begin to build a credit history in Jolly Old England.
