The rain this summer has been so fine it can’t be clearly seen through a house window. Unless you suspect it’s raining and look really closely you’d just think it was a dull, gloomy day when really it is a restorative kind of day for the earth. Today was one of those days for the earth. I was transported back to the garden of Eden, as if I was ever there! But my ancestors were so perhaps I can empathise! I felt refreshed and calm all day. It was as if I was in a healing rain forest being showered with this invigorating water. As one of my retreat mistresses would say, I was being,
“Re-sourced.”
Heaven’s shower head was set on mist.
After a few months of this, without the odd day of sunshine, I bet I’ll be saying something quite different. But in the past our family has never let rainy days in England keep us indoors. Watching it today, I can see we why we braved the wet, it falls so gently to almost have a spa quality. As I walked around I was hydrated; a very healthy sensation.
This afternoon, after walking down the High Street, as I tend to do most days just to get my face out there, I came home, made some tea and fruit, got my book and a towel to sit on and went outside to soak up the natural mist. Yes, I sat in the rain and snacked and read. It was lovely.
Later in the evening I took a vigourous walk in the vapours, I had to be careful not to slip, the leaves on the pavements made the surface slick but the air was cool and revigorating. It was a reverse humidity. There were people playing tennis on the wet courts, nothing much stops in England for a few showers, we live companionably with our pal the rain.
It is still doing its biblical watering tonight as I write, the gentle waters that nourish the land. No wonder everything is green.
