Floating Along

Still in Edinburgh.

I missed breakfast this morning, because I was sleeping. But I did manage to make it in time for Coffee-Time, 10-1030. There were some rolls with sugar on top, so that was my breakfast. I also had coffee (Nescafe, instant…Starbucks snob over here will have to get used to instant coffee again). I also was a total fatty and had a Hot Chocolate, which was really delish.

People keep introducing themselves to me, because I am new, and everyone says how they have never met an American before and they are amazed when I say I’m from Texas…

I still don’t have my uniform, but I did go to the purser to get my Crew Card.  It’s ugly but it has my money on it and I use it as my key to get into my cabin.

I do my own laundry, so I have to get some detergent and fabric softener.

I had a really nice long chat with the Head Dancer, in pigeon English, I felt like I was having a hard time grasping for words that will make sense to her.

Duties are not too bad…apparently.   I am told it is a very Chill Ship and not a whole lot of time to get bored because we are either doing the show, sleeping or on duty.

Head Dancer did say that whenever we dock I need to go off.   To stay sane.

I have no idea of many people’s names yet…even with the nametags…except my own!

I haven’t been up to the passenger deck or anywhere yet, except the mess hall.

I can wear whatever I want, unless I go upstairs where the passengers are, then I have to dress accordingly.

There is a different show every night, 7 nights!  Then when the new ‘Cruise’ starts we start all over again!

Each Crew Member has a color. I am Evergreen. This means on the ‘Manning’ sheet, when we are in a certain port, if it is in Evergreen I am not allowed to get off the ship that day because my ‘Green Team’ needs to be on board in case something happens to the ship.

I also have a crew number, 523, or something like that.

There are lots of staircases everywhere. Going up decks and down decks. Right now I am on deck 4. There are only 3 decks below me. Deck 4 is where everything happens, the ‘mess’, offices, cabins.

We go up one deck to 5 for the theatre.

Last night was ‘White Night’ and everyone was wearing…White!

My cabin is very dark, obviously, there’s no natural light. The walls are cream. The carpet is a purple-ey blue. There is a tiny wardrobe, a desk with drawers, a TV in the corner, curtains around the bed and a wee (Scottish for very small) corner bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower.

CrampedQuarters

As you can see it is all very crammed.

The Staff mess has windows, so that’s nice…to be able to see outside.

If you have questions, email me and I will answer everything! Because without the Internet I have a LOT of free time to just type type type!
