Floating News

Here I am in Edinburgh, pronounced Edinburrah, I know…you knew that!!

I am keeping myself a little busy by writing, walking around and slouching on my bed (because I am currently on the top bunk and the ceiling is very low).

Here is a bit of an update just from my first day!

Edinburgh is in Scotland…you knew that too I’ll bet!?  The accent takes a lot of getting used to but read on, at least they are talking Scottish English!

I am the only American they have ever had on the Cruise Ship Mistral, which is where I work now!

IberoMistral

Everyone on board speaks Spanish…and that’s it!

Of course some of them speak English with heavy accents and use simple words.  I learned a lot today in one go.

I did my safety training.

I have seen the theatre where I will be working.  I watched them rehearse for the show tonight because one of the singers is not going on because she is really sick.

The view from the decks is absolutely stunning, that’s what keeps me extremely excited by this experience, and what will make living in a tiny metal room worth it.

The peaceful sea and the beautiful places I will see.

Sailing

I have eaten lunch and dinner.  The food was the same, fish, pork and chicken, rice, soup and pasta, oranges, cheese and bread.

I am only allowed one beer, any more I may get caught when the Random Checks are carried out…

Random Checks are also carried out in our rooms, so I can’t have alcohol socked away.  I was told it’s a,

“No, no!”

Right now I am in a ‘holding’ room and sharing!

I am waiting for the girl I am replacing to leave and then I will move in.  I’m not sure if it’s a single or if I will have a roommate…I will find out in a couple days.

My ‘Hall’ has all the entertainment people on it,

These are two messes, one for Crew one for Staff.  I am allowed to eat with the passengers sometimes at breakfast and lunch.

Absolutely no one can say my name!  But I have an awesome name badge. It tells me (and everyone else) who I am, what I do and where I am from complete with an American flag!

I am changing my home location to Texas instead of London (that’s where they will fly me at the end of my contract).

While we sailed the boat started rocking back and forth. Its not too bad, but I felt as though I was a little tipsy!

Thoughts and observations for my first day…

Scared s***less.

Still very excited!

The dancing might not be up to the par I am used to.

My cabin feels a little like a prison cell.

I am the only blonde dancer (this excites me!?).

Cafeteria-style meals, not a fan, I will have to get used to it or lose a lot of weight.

I feel like Granny (hard of hearing) sitting and watching everyone talk and having no idea what it is they are going on about.

All in all a Very Overwhelming day.

BUT tomorrow is a New Day and no longer my first!
