Great Expectations…

The morning of the date dawned and with it the heavens opened in a great watery display. My blue eyed cowboy and I had been surmising as to where she was going to be taken on her debut outing alone with a boy and most of the places we thought of were outdoors.  We groaned when we saw the teeming rain, knowing how our sons would feel in a similar situation.  Before we had even met him we were praying that his plans hadn’t been ruined and he was still able to impress our daughter who had great expectations based on the elaborate surprise dates her brothers came up with for their girlfriends.

He arrived on our doorstep punctually and we were briefly introduced, we bit our tongues and managed not to ask where they were going or for her to call us when she arrived at her destination.  We peeked out of the window to see if he opened the car door for her, which he did.  First test passed!

At four o’clock, when she returned starry eyed and excited, she gathered the two of us together in the garden room and gave us a detailed summary of her outing.  The Dallas Aquarium, an expensive Mexican restaurant (not the one he works at) for lunch and intense conversation over a cappuccino (not at the coffee shop she works at).

Their conversation never faltered, neither did the rain.  He told her he had never taken a girl home to meet his parents, not because he didn’t want to but because they had never wanted to.  My daughter took this declaration as a challenge, I could tell by the smile on her face.  She had never had a problem with parents, at least not other people’s!

Date number two was in the works.
