Mattress Saga…

Daughts has a queen size bed in her room.

When we moved to England she went from a twin to a full and loved the added wriggle space.

On our recent return to America a friend was getting rid of all his furniture so daughts agreed to take his queen bed with box springs.

Two problems presented themselves, one, it took up a large part of her single room, but she could get used to that and two, she can hardly walk after a night’s sleep on it, it is either too soft, or beaten down or just plain old and well used!

Daughts looked online for a deal and found lots, all in the 350-500 dollar range…too much for my shallow pockets.

Hubs looked at brand new ones at Sam’s, definitely nothing speaking my financial language there.

Remember, this will be a bed that moves out when our daughter leaves so we’re not looking at a long term investment.

I tried my new, but so far fruitless, best friend, Craig’s List.  I found two, one was ‘very firm’ and was a bit of a trek, so we decided to go for the less expensive and relatively closer deal that was being heave-ho’d to make room for a crib.  It boasted a pillow top on both sides for a further valuable asset.

We decided that we could probably hoist it onto Rosie, our bright P.T. Cruiser, as long as we didn’t care what we looked like, and set off.

We handed over the cash and with the help of the seller laid the mattress on top of our bright red roof.  There wasn’t too much overhang and hubs strapped it down remarkably well with yards of yellow rope.  This sleep-aid was going no-where without permission.

We surveyed our handiwork gave it a nod of approval and went to open the doors…they were tied shut!

I raised my eyebrows at hubs in a ‘now what?’ gesture.

“We’ll have to climb through the windows,” he said matter-of-factly as if this happened regularly in his day-to-day.  But then he is a cowboy and horses don’t have doors!

“You’re kidding me!”  I said, but he wasn’t!

It’s a good job we’re both agile… notice who’s taking the pictures…

The Clampetts were ready to go!

I spent the whole journey, which we took slowly, congratulating myself!  Craig’s List had come up trumps!

At home we had to dismount which was a little less graceful!

But with only hubs watching I managed to ease myself out backwards,

finding terra firma after a lot of wiggling!

On hauling our steal upstairs we plonked it on the vacated box springs and bloody hell!  It was a full not a queen!

Our tracks had to be re-traced and I ate my words…not a very tasty snack.
