Rescue Birds…

My son and his wife, who have their own company Window to the Wild, were all about the birds and the bees this week.

It must be the sudden onslaught of Spring with the rain bringing forth new growth and the days staying with us a little longer and the temperatures sticking at a comfortable 63 degrees.

First there was a budgie,

He had a tag but no way of contacting his owner.  Lindsey thought he’d probably either been released because his voice carries too far, or his cage door was irresponsibly left open in a room with an inviting window.

Furthermore, she felt, even if there had been a way to locate his owner, he or she may have been undeserving. They are noisy birds and I was not tempted to offer him a home so off to the bird sanctuary he went.

Second came the bees,

stranded on a wall outside the Blind Butcher (where the young marrieds work).

Simon called for a bee keeper who came to hive them and relocated them to a farm in Forney,

“You will be able to send them to us soon,” I said.

“I know,” said Lindsey, “I really wanted them!”

Then there were some young birds that were delivered to Roger’s Wildlife where the tiny house is parked.  Hermes, the great horned owlet, had to check out the new arrivals first.

They needed feeding every 30 minutes; three hungry robin fledglings,

and a cheeky mockingbird who made himself right at home,

Last, into the mix, came the offer of a couple of 3 week old kittens who had been thrown away in a dumpster…Lindsey almost said,

“Sure, I’ll take them!” but said instead,

“Kittens and birds?  Maybe not!”
