Rules and Regulations…

I was assigned to supervise car pool one afternoon at school.

Watching all the swish SUV’s drive by slowly, picking up their charges carefully loaded by the student safety patrol, brought back memories of the times I’d picked up my charges from Montessori while I was still a corporate executive at Ticketmaster.

I was on the other side of the car/truck, the responsible adult standing curbside with a police officer also on duty with me.

The little boys I was with were fascinated my this officer’s uniform belt,

“What’s that?”  one of them asked.

“A taser.” he replied.

“Have you ever used it?”

“Nope, but I’ve had it used on me.”

The boys’ eyes sprung open in amazement,

“Did you get chased down and a bad guy took your taser and shot you?” one asked his imagination running wild.

“No!  I was shot during training before I was issued one.”

“Cool,” they said and went back to loading students.

“Does the same apply to your gun?”  I asked.  He looked at me and paused.

“No,” he said.

What if everyone had to suffer the effects of being shot, with a taser or a firearm, before owning a weapon?
