Twenty-Nine years ago my Blue Eyed Cowboy robbed the cradle and together we said our first “I do’s,” in the City of Westminster with God as our witness.
Two words, “I do,” carry a lot of weight, they are giving the nod to a life spent with another, to a union, to a single mindedness with nuances.
“I do,” means honouring and looking after, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish until death do us part.
Without prayer, heavy is the stuff of nuptials.
“I do,” means the giving up of only self and opens instead a wealth of possibilities as to who I am on the other side of marriage.
For twenty-nine years I have nurtured a life I made my own with my forever mate; at every turn, upheaval, high or low came the desire to say “I do,” again.
My vows were fully loaded, a chemistry tickled with heavenly help made our wedded state, bliss with imperfections.
Together our “I do,” promises keep the atoms spinning.
“I do,” did not mean I lost myself in the blue eyes, the wit, the laughter and the love,
it meant that in the losing I aspired to a finding, a gentle going out to meet half way through the disappointments, the joys, the dashing of dreams, the emptiness the fulfillments.
“I do,” remembers I am who I am; fully there, choosing to be the change, constantly learning, serving and supporting.
“I do,” embraces fidelity, stability, and motherhood while the me inside soars.
“I do,” releases the rebel in a slightly unpredictable self.
“I do,” allows me to work out my salvation within the mists of marriage, shepherding others along the way.
“I do,” twenty-nine years ago has trained me up to be a warrior for the Wind beneath my Wings.
Thanks for asking, Blue Eyed Cowboy…
“I do, I do ,I do I do, I do, I do!”
