Sunset in the East…

Footlights faces West.

In the summer I’ll see an orangecrush-float sky foaming over the barn and the back fairway first thing in the morning,

Sunrise2

and a blushing pink candy floss sunset in the front forty fifteen hours later.

Sunset

I’ve been trying to get the perfect pictures, just two of them, to be painted and hung over the two french windows that face East and West, and it has proven to be rather an elusive exercise.

Each shot over the years has its own quality and it is difficult to choose the best, I am beginning to reconcile myself to the fact that there is no best.

Every visible sunrise and sunset is a miracle unto itself, a tribute to the Creator of this great universe,

as this view, captured just last evening, attests.

Sunset3

Looking eastward across the back fairway

the sun is setting on the other side of the house and casting its final rays on the trunks of some of the trees

causing them to glow at the close of day…

all but the two standing front and centre…

Sunset2

A golden pathway is cast deeply into the already dark woods.

Sunset

Dusk, dawdling in the east like a child reluctant for bed,

bidding Footlights a fond farewell until dawn.
