The Last Day of Term…

My school teacher daughter decided to go back to college under her own steam.

Don’t we just love the independence we have instilled in our offspring?

They go to college, buy a car, get a job, move out, move a long way away and over the course of a couple of years decide college isn’t such a bad place after all especially if you want to up your hourly wage!

Our daughter did just that, she applied for a grant and financial aid and signed up for classes all on her own.

We had to get involved because the system deems her still dependent on us while she is under 24 years old.

And we don’t even live on the same planet…I mean continent, as her.

Anyway everything worked out and she took the final, final of her first term, yesterday.

We thought about her, prayed for her, we were even at mass while her exam was going on so can truthfully say, we went on our knees for her!

Eager to treat herself to the traditional Panda Express bowl of delight, awarded on special occasions, she hurried out to her car when her exam was over and was surprised to discover it had been the victim of a hit and run while parked on the campus parking lot.

The whole front light and blinker system had been smashed and there was a dent in the body work.

As if this wasn’t bad enough she’d just replaced this same front end fixture after having a slight disagreement with a mail box a few months ago.

I commented, in my motherly way,

“Well, at least you had quite a hefty tax return…”

“That’s all gone, buying things for my new apartment,” she hastily interrupted.

Those new apartments get you every time!

Life is difficult when there’s no-one around to help you, not that she doesn’t have friends, but everyone was at work when all this was happening and parents 4000 miles away were the closest solution!

Someone’s careless action caused all the wind to be taken out of her sails and she didn’t even mention her exam or the anticipated Chinese meal…

Let’s see if this cheers you up Twinkletoes!

Escargot

Since  Dick King-Smith didn’t give Sophie’s Snail a name I have.

Escargot.

I learned, while trying to capture the perfect image to elicit a smile, this snail moves fast!  At least she does among the miniature pansies I have growing in a pot on the patio.

I brought this particular specimen home from the church graveyard where it was slowly making its way across a path.  I didn’t have my camera with me to take advantage of a photo shoot so I plonked it in my bag.

She did very well for an hour or so,

then curled up inside her shell and fell asleep.
