Unique, Gifted, Lovable You…

This week I had the pleasure of meeting a dog whose positive self image defies her appearance.

She is the acronym, Unique, Gifted, Lovable You, (U.G.L.Y.) come to life!

My teacher-daughter is one of her best friends.

Dogs aren’t referred to as a man’s (or woman’s) best friend for nothing… they really do make you feel better with their:

Unconditional love,

Unwavering trust,

Pure enthusiasm for life and

Complete disregard for how you look.

Whether or not you’ve had a shower, combed your hair or shaved your legs…as long as there’s food and water, walks and games and plenty of attention (when you’re home) they’re…

Barkingly,

Gruntingly,

Slobberingly,

HAPPY…

All the time with you!

Sasha was no exception and brought the importance of self-respect and it’s enduring benefits home to me fair and square.

How can anyone complain of another day come too soon…

Or bemoan their sleep lined countenance,

When the first thing they see, on opening their eyes in the morning, is a face like this?

Sasha is an English Bulldog, who thought she was all that as she rode shot-gun,

Sasha5

on her way to Footlights for a special one-on-one time with Paris, leaving her brothers behind for the day.

She spent her solo hours snuffling around leaves, playing hide and seek with Callie (who kept a low profile) and keeping an eye on any human who was willing to give her water and take her out for a little walk… now and again and again and again.

Her unquestioning dependence filled me with the self-assurance that anything I did for her would be absolutely right.

When she looked up at me with her doleful eyes Hubs would whisper,

“Don’t say anything but she thinks she’s really cute…”

“Sasha thinks she’s adorable…” I replied, and she is.

“Wanna play ball?” she seemed to tease into the camera when all she really wanted was an excuse to show off how well she’d perfected the art of panting and chewing her ball at the same time,

Sasha

without a care in the world about how (shhh…) silly she looked.

I dare you to say the words,

“I look awful…” around Sasha.

I dare you to consider yourself anything less than beautiful in her company.

She certainly boosted my self confidence!
