From King to Full…

Hubs and I have had a king size bed for years.

King size beds get some negative press but for me I love the stretch capacity they afford without encountering my bedmate every time I turn over or want to spread myself around a bit.

Our bed is firm too so I am not disturbed when hubs gets up in the middle of the night and then plonks himself back in the bed.  Not that I’m not aware that he’s moving around, it’s just that my side of the bed doesn’t move around with him.

Apart from having to re-locate to a new city a year ago with nothing but a couple of bags of belongings to help make me feel at home, the number one thing I was dreading on my arrival in England was the bed share.

I’d been home several times on my own when my parents were ailing and their Queen sized beds were comfortable for me alone but a little too close for comfort for two.  In addition, they weren’t really Queens they were more like American fulls.

I spent the first few weeks crammed along the edge of my side of the bed.  My parents were always replacing their beds so at least this one didn’t have a dip in the centre that forced hubs and me into each other’s arms.

As the weeks turned into months we found we could stretch quite well as long as we didn’t try to go horizontal.  We grew accustomed to sharing a smaller space, it wasn’t as bad as I had anticipated.

Except for the bouncing mattress!

When hubs got up in the middle of the night and plonked himself back into the bed, I too was trounced.  No amount of reminders could get him to slip smoothly into his side of the bed after a random nocturnal wander.

I demonstrated, I bounced my way into the bed, he liked it,

“Want to have a pillow fight?” he asked!

I slipped gently between the sheets,

“Oh, you mean there are rules for getting into bed now?” he asked.

“Yes,” I said, “it’s called the Sidle Rule!”

“Sidle, sidle sidle!” he mimicked!

I think I got used to the bouncing, it’s awfully still here now that we’re home with the King again!
