Nano Second…

My son relayed this news to me this evening.

It affected several people including one of his close friends who works with him.

All it took was a nano second and poof, life the way they knew it had changed forever.

My school teacher daughter said that about the birth of her younger sister as she was looking through her photo album this weekend.  It showed her “baby” lying in her clumsy two year old arms,

“Changed in a good way…” she added.

This evening a young man of twenty-two was sitting on the couch in his home with his girlfriend, a seasonal worker at the Dallas Zoo.

His parents were in the kitchen.

He was cleaning a gun.

Yes, I know you guessed it, and yes you’re right!

He was putting the gun back together and it went off in his face and killed him.  Just like that.

His girlfriend was sitting next to him.  She was hysterical and called her boss, my son’s friend.

His parents were in the kitchen and ran to find out what had happened.  They called the police.

He had been cleaning his gun and it had gone off in his face.  He died instantly..

His parents are now arranging a funeral.

The cremation takes place tomorrow.

His girlfriend gets a couple of days off work.  Her boss at the zoo is beside herself scheduling a replacement.

For them all, life as they knew it will never be the same again.

For everyone else, life goes on.

The next morning my son’s friend went to the house to offer condolences, flowers were in order.

“Here’s where he fell,” she was told as they pointed to the blood stained carpet.  My son’s friend was horrified.

“We carried him out onto the patio and let him die in peace.”

She looked around at the family and said in a quiet voice,

“Hang on a minute, who died?”

“The family dog, nothing could be done for him, he was shot right in the face, animal services came and got him and took him away.”  My son’s friend breathed a sigh of relief and they added,

“He is being cremated today.”

“I knew that,” she said handing them the flowers and beating a hasty retreat.

Anyone for a game of Chinese telephones?
