Mattress Take 3…

Hubs and were out while youngest daughts, who gets up before the birds, was taking a nap after a hard day making coffee.

She answered the phone despite the fact that we have always cautioned our offspring not to draw attention to the fact that during the day children are at home.  It’s an unspoken homeschooling rule!

“A lady called in response to an email you’d sent her last week about a mattress she had for sale.”

She winked at her long suffering father who had slumped into his recliner, defeat written all over his face.

“Well, we could always use another bed,” I said referring to the two empty rooms now that the boys had left.

“Use your Southern charm on her Dad and see if you can knock her down a dollar or two, she’s really friendly,” wheedled our princess.

I suppose he remembered the comment she’d made about the queen bed hauled half way across Texas last week on top of our stalwart steed,

“Cracker thin,” she’d said.

“This one has a box springs too, ” she added handing him the phone.

Thirty minutes later we were on our way, this time it was only across the freeway in the same city.

We listened to the five year history of the bed and leaned against the pillow top on both sides, then loaded first the box springs and then the mattress onto our trusty Rosie while our daughter scrambled inside the car, not wanting to subject herself to climbing through windows.

She observed and photographed us running rope through the windows and around the double stacked load, successfully securing the doors in the process,

“You guys are professionals at this,” she smiled, handing yards of rope through the window as it whistled past her face.

We showed off our yoga enhanced flexibility when it was time to hit the road and set off for home.  Hubs was still worried we would be spotted!  All we needed was a rocking chair to complete the picture!

At home our film maker son happened upon the scene as I was folding myself through the car window.

He joined the game of of musical beds.

I helped with the sheets.

That night it was hot again.  Daughts slept in the adjoining room, on the cracker mattress, beneath the open window.

We belong to a rare breed of parent!
