He is Risen Indeed…

My eyes went to the montage on the bier in the North transet as soon as I entered the lily filled sanctuary.

The stone had been rolled away!  The tomb was empty!

The church was full!

For the first time in seven weeks we had the glorious cross at the altar, the new paschal candle taking pride of place at the centre of the chancel and golden vestments.

The Gloria was sung once more by our choir and most of all we had the Alleluias.

“Our mouths were full of laughter and our tongues with shouts of joy.”  (Psalm 126: 2)

The weather was cloudy and cold, quite typical for Easter, all the summer dresses had been laid aside for the woolies and long skirts, but the spirit of the resurrection was with us to brighten our hearts and remind us of what Christ has done for us.  We can bask in His glory forever when we embrace His gift.

At home Malia, Hubs and I got busy in the kitchen.

My brother brought me flowers for the coffee table, long stemmed roses, more brightly coloured than the yellow and white of church.  Hubs provided the Champagne.

We ate my mother’s signature dish, schnitzels made with pounded pork,

Schnitzels

garnished with our version of mashed potatoes, twice baked, broccoli, asparagus wrapped with proscuitto, a salad and lemon wedges.

“This is my favourite meal,” said my brother, “did you do it for some sort of rememberance?”

My children can’t remember me making them schnitzels very often.  When I was growing up it was the most requested, ‘final meal before going back to school.’

On Sunday I made it without thinking, a reflex.

My sagging festive Italian Wedding cake showed itself briefly to oohs and aahs and then impressed us with its three perfect layers adorned with colourful mini eggs on our plates. Strong coffee finished the meal.

The following day I was on the High Street, off for another walk no doubt, and heard a man outside Sainsbury’s (oh yes, I was on the look out for half price chocolate!) wish another man,

“Happy Easter!” only to be glared at as if he was one chip short of a happy meal and half a day late .

It is “Happy Easter” until Pentecost.

Without the Risen Lord we are not Christians!

So let the “Happy Easters!” ring out loud and clear!
