London Bridge…

When we met Malia from college last week it was the last time she had to make the journey from Leigh-on-Sea.

She wanted to see the Olympic rings suspended from Tower Bridge and as we waited for her train hubs and I wandered to the river front for a preview.  A five minute meander past the Tower,

in which we were rained and shined on a couple of times.  What is with the weather?

The rings are tucked up against the top of the bridge, you can see them if you look closely.  We discovered why.  When the bridge opens for a tall ship to pass through they would most likely be hit,

I am thinking the mechanics of synchronising the move are still being worked out!

When Malia arrived we walked across Tower Bridge and tried to photo the rings from beneath but there was too much shadow.

We walked along More London a new yuppy area, except I am sure that term’s not used any more!  There’s a 37 degree fitness club that smelt of a steamy sauna when the sliding entranceway opened, a small ampitheatre, lots of bistros, bars and city slickers, then the Shard, close up.

Although it Officially Opened the other day to mighty congestion on London Bridge until late into the night, it is not open to the public until February of 2013, so the doormen turned us away.

The new London Bridge Station, adjacent to this monstrous sky scraper, was quite impressive though and very busy so we caught our train home from there.
