Holy Saturday was a fairly quiet day for me. I had no annual Easter Party to prepare for.  My brother was coming over for lunch so four of us were eating.  Easy peasy! I did make my Italian Wedding cake which, when all decked out with cream icing and Cadbury mini eggs, looks as festive…

On Good Friday we participated in a Witness Walk down Beckenham High Street. Malia asked me, “You know how people feel about Christians here, isn’t it going to be awkward walking down the street behind a man carrying a cross?’ “I don’t know,” I said, “I’ve never done it.  Let’s find out.” So we did….

Morning Frenzy…

There was a frenzy in my house this morning. It’s winter so my Venus Razor has been allowed to hibernate quietly on the soap dish in my shower. Until this morning that is! Armed with a new blade I tackled my legs and almost ran out of hot water and clogged the drain. I knew…

The lovely park we go to is full of broody ducks, geese, swans and heron. Any minute now the eggs will be a-hatching and the chicks will be a-chickling and we will all smile and coo over every young bird we see as the blossom and the flowers form a perfect backdrop for new life….

New procedures at the coffee shop where my daughter works has them asking customers for their names. Not unusual in America but considered very ‘forward’ in England. “Why do you need my name?  Just call out the coffee’s name like you did the last time.” Or they’ll give their surname, very public school-esque of them….

The Shopping Event…

After my show each week we go to the supermarket.  This is a store called Sainsbury’s and it is almost at the bottom of the High Street. I look forward to it but it is quite an ‘event.’ Hubs says, “It’s the long walk back with heavy bags that gets you isn’t it?” “No,” I…

I still have all the dark furniture in the flat.  Stag it is called if anyone is interested in making an offer. My mother has had it since I was six, or at least a version of it.  The bedrooms of my youth were furnished with dark furniture the living rooms with light. I now…

For one week and four days I have had the mother of sore throats.  For someone who rarely gets sick this was a record for me.  I can usually shrug off the flu in a day and boomerang a cold back from whence it came before it even has a chance to sneeze. Sometimes my…
