Keep off the Grass…

My daughter danced in the pre-game show at Wembley Stadium.

Chelsea and Liverpool were playing in the FA Cup.

A lot of work went into choreographing 150 dancers from two separate colleges.

Taking the rehearsed work from a large studio to a massive football field was no easy task in spacing and blocking.

Dealing with long travel several times during the week, cold weather and the interminable rain was a long and interesting experience.

They practised once at the O2 Arena because they weren’t allowed on the Wembley grass.

When they were at Wembley they were told not to stand still on the turf for any length of time, so they were comstantly moving their feet.

On their final rehearsal they were given arm bands,

After an eight hour day they took some photos,

and my dancer was told off for jumping!

At least she was keeping off the grass!

On May 5th they headed off to Wembley from Leigh, in a luxury coach and arrived at the stadium with plenty of time to spare.

They had their own dressing room.

and waited.

When the time came to dance there was no camera team on the field, we watched live on my computer, a long shot taken from the stands.

Trying to identify anyone when they were all dressed alike in their Baco Foil costumes was impossible!  I made jokes afterwards when she asked,

“Did you see me?”

“Yes, clad in silver, blonde ponytail, red shirt, on the field?  I saw you!”

Six weeks of work for 3 minutes of showtime and the privilege to include it as an experience on her CV.

Not that dancing at the FA Cup holds much clout on an American resume, but she had fun!
