Simple Pleasures…

Yellow

I have a routine on Fridays.  I brought it with me from America and it anchored me during my first few traumatic weeks.  Now it soothes me as I prepare for my show knowing I have not let myself down, which I could do so easily on some of the weeks when I am either very busy or would rather be doing nothing!

I get up and write my journal, update my day to day and read the bible.  I check for any new messages on my iPod and chat with my youngest if she is in a chatty mood just before college.

After this I spend an hour on my yoga mat in mindful meditation and silent practice with one of my yogis from YogaGlo.

Then I spend an hour checking my show, making sure I have my questions in place, the contact information for my guest and information posted on both my Web pages.

Then, one of the mainstays of my sanity when stress is impending, I clean the flat.

Now it is just a little place and even with watering plants and replacing water in ramekins to counter the dryness in the air from the radiators, I can do it single handedly in less than 90 minutes.

A clean, sweet smelling space lifts my soul and makes me feel ready for anything…if my guest is a no-show, I’m a chatterbox, if I get muddled during my break cues, I laugh, if my connection is lost I take a deep breath and call back!

“Cleanliness is next to Godliness!”  My mother used to say!  I am very close to God in these moments.

Finally I take a shower and wash my hair.  I dress, carefully apply my make-up and dry my hair.  Not that I appear visually on my show but I like to feel and look as good as I sound.  Plus, hubs and I usually go shopping afterwards so I like to be ready to dash out at my last,

“Doop doop doop, doodle oodle oop!”

I drink the first caffeine of the day and it’s 130pm, thirty minutes to show time!

I brush my teeth to whisk away any hint of tea breath down the microphone and test my Skype connection with hubs.

I sign into Toginet and studio chat for a few moments before my producer calls me and I’m on!

All ready to go buoyed up by my simple pleasures.
