The State Fair…

I am not keen on large crowds and continuous noise, I need quiet time.  In our flat in London we managed to achieve absolute silence sometimes and our youngest daughter was perturbed by this.

I think our children are unable to deal with the challenges silence brings.  I wonder if they keep busy with work, driving, social networking and movie watching to avoid being alone with their inner selves?

But that’s another blog!

We went to the Fair this year where the crowds and noise bring a glaze to my eyes and I mentally shut down with all the sensory overdrive buzzing around me.

But we were there to witness a  great event and since hubs and daughts had managed to get me through the gates they decided to take me on a tour of the eight fried foods in the 8th Annual Big Tex Choice Awards.

This food tasting is always an interesting part of the outing albeit unhealthy, but only if eaten for every meal, agreed?!  For me I enjoy an occasional lapse.

On the list of contestants were,

Deep fried chocolate tres leche cake; Jambalaya; Mac-N-Cheese slider; Bacon cinnamon roll; Mexican firecrackers; picnic on a stick, this intrigued me and I asked what it was, layered chicken, tater tots and pickle! and a pork wing.

We passed tried and tested favourites including the Twinkies which were the first award recipients in 2004!

We made a careful selection,

Daughts was the most adventurous with the Fried Guacamole artery blocker,

she generously shared the risk.  It was hot and spicy and reminded me of the fried avocado at On The Border!

I had the Fried Snickers, playing safe with something familiar and sweet,

FairSnickers

which I gave a bite of to my crowd!

Hubs played even safer and went for a Fletcher’s Corny Dog which has been a food mainstay at the Fair since 1942 making it 70 years old!

We all agreed Carl and Neil’s creation is still King, and the lines go on and on…
