I came to England all hyped up on Yoga having started taking it in November at my writing retreat in New Mexico, courtesy of my friend Ann Dunnewold. I continued at the local fitness club where I belonged and managed to go twice a week. For some reason I took to it like a duck to water, it became my new medium for expressing myself through the gentle moves and stretches of my body. I reconnected with myself, my soul, my breath. I prayed while I posed, the longer the pose the more fervent the prayer.
When I came to England I looked for Yoga and found it, but it was expensive. The classes weren’t even at a fancy club, just a village hall. No, I am not being fair, not just a village hall, a village hall with chandaliers and mouldings around the ceiling and wooden floors that smelled faintly of wax.
One of my first teachers, when she found I was from America, told me about a fabulous website out of California that streamed Yoga 24/7.
I don’t know why she shared this information with me, it wasn’t good for her business. She was probably hooked on it too, I can see why now, there’s a lot to be learned from these high powered instructors in L.A.
The name of the website was strange but I remembered it, a good marketing ploy, especially when I forget everything I’m told within a few steps of leaving the room.
I take a different class every day. I can choose class length, style and teacher.
Today I did an hour’s class to help my aching back. It felt so good and I thought,
“That was physio-therapy and it only costs me $18.00 a month!”
Yesterday I took a One Footed King Pigeon Pose class with a high energy instructor and found the stretching involved in preparation for the final pose helped my hip flexors and today I walked without my right side hurting!
Other days I take a class that gets me sweating and panting.
I can repeat my classes, but prefer not to. The variety makes me feel as though I am going to the studio and taking a new class every day.
I have no idea who the lady is who recommended this to me, she was a substitute teacher that night. But I haven’t been back since because of her.
Is that a good thing or not?
Oh, and I thought YogaGlo meant, Yoga made you Glow. But it stands for Yoga Global! And it is. Check it out.
If you’re an aspiring Yogi you’ll be a happy baby!
