Fund Raiser…

Our son and his wife are building a facility to house their birds and they have very supportive friends and colleagues.

Summit rock climbing wall offered to let them use their space for a silent auction, a display of wild birds, good food and a bake sale last week and a good time was had by all.

The restaurant where they work, The Blind Butcher, donated food and two members of staff to serve and talk about their establishment.

A couple of local breweries found their kegs in high demand and we were treated to some delicious IPA’s and dark beers.

Of course the star of the evening was my favorite Eastern Screech Owl, Pigwidgeon,

Looking particularly slender on this occasion due to nerves and keeping his eyes closed against the crowds.

I contributed to the sale by making mud pie brownies, a healthy dessert to follow the delicious fare I treated myself to for dinner, hand made potato crisps, chicken salad sandwich, pasta salad, pesto pasta salad and baked potato salad with bacon and chives.

The brownies had to make their appearance in plastic glasses (spoons distributed) because they were so incredibly gooey using hands was not an option no matter how dainty-fingered the eater.

The gym itself was well attended and on observing some of the climbers I, hitherto a staunch believer that I could not manage to scale an edifice, decided I could give it a go one quiet, middle of the week morning.

I won’t tell you when!

At intervals during the evening the birds were brought out for a meet and greet, since they were what all the commotion was about,

Saphira, the red tailed hawk, had to stay in her room with her handler because she isn’t used to a lot of noisy people,

and the high ceilings would entice her to try to break free from her jess, which is not a good idea!

Smaug, the beautiful male American Kestrel, is the smallest falcon and yes, a very impressive bird of prey,Fundraiser2

and Pigwidgeon, were keen to make friends though and behaved very well.

Pigwidgeon photo bombed with me…

The evening was a success and as the treasurer of their non-profit board I am sure I will be computing my first set of financials in the not too distant future.

Go and pay them a visit at Window to the Wild it’s never too late to donate for these wonderful birds’  new facility.
