Drawing In…

I hate to report it but we are losing nearly 4 minutes of daylight a day at the moment, a couple of minutes in the morning and a couple in the evening.  By the time my son arrives in two weeks it will be getting dark a whole 30 minutes earlier than this evening.  I grew up with this massive drop in daylight during the winter months and I am sure my body will automatically adjust, it’s my brain I’m worried about, pumping in the depression chemicals to send my spirits plummeting.

We were walking home from mass through the church graveyard last night and I commented to my brave protector,

“I think we need to stick to the main thoroughfares in future…” there are a lot of gravestones to hide behind in cemeteries.

He did not argue with me.

I will soon have to change my walking routine to the afternoon.

It will eventually be getting dark at around 330pm which means there are still five hours of drawing in left to go before December.  At 4 minutes a day the darkness is descending with frightening alacrity.

During the summer when I first arrived we had 17 hours of lovely daylight, now I am looking forward to only 8 hours!

During the summer I stayed up for the whole 17 hours not wanting to lie in bed in the sunlight or go to bed while it was still bright.  Should I shorten my days correspondingly to 8 hours?

This Friday, 23rd is the Autumn Equinox which means that we will have roughly 12 hours each of darkness and light.

Then the light starts to get overwhelmed by the dark until the middle of December when the tables are turned and the light resumes its battle.

But until then…16 hour nights.
