House Sitting…

When we went to Florida in June we left our new house to be looked after by Daughts, who was already living there.

Understanding our hesitancy at leaving our children in charge of the homestead, she said,

“I know how you want to find it when you come home and I promise I won’t fire up the charcoal grill inside the house…”

As is my habit when I leave to go anywhere I filled up the freezer with good food, stocked the pantry and swept and mopped the floors (among other things) making sure everything was bright, sunny and welcoming.

I also looked after the house in Florida as if were my own and left it, in the words of the returning owners,

“Cleaner than it was before…”

True to her word Hubs and I did not find evidence of smoke in our living room on our return.

The house was spotless, the back 40 was well mowed and pate, cheese and champagne were laid on for a light, late night supper,

What a joy to find the furniture dusted, the floors clean, the kitchen spotless… the pantry bare!  Well, that was to be expected!

Thanks Daughts!

We also returned to our oldest son visiting from California and spent several days with him catching up and experiencing our new favorite, after church breakfast place.

Bill Smith’s Cafe

He loved our new property and called it, “home” straight away!

“Don’t talk about Footlights as an investment for selling down the line,” he said, “we’re going to be inheriting this farmstead.”
